It is not unreasonable to expect that a surgeon who offers services such as breast surgery or body contouring has received proper training and competed residencies in aesthetic procedures. However, the truth is that anyone with a medical degree, regardless of their training, can offer cosmetic surgery procedures.
Only someone who has undergone additional training, completed residencies in cosmetic procedures, and met the strict qualifications of the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) can call himself a plastic surgeon. Make sure, when choosing a Houston plastic surgeon, you are selecting one who has been board-certified by the ABPS.
If you are considering a plastic surgery procedure and live in Houston or any of the surrounding areas of Texas, please contact the Eisemann Plastic Surgery Center or call 281-730-5700 to schedule a consultation with our triple board-certified plastic surgeon.
For a doctor to become board-certified by the ABPS, he must first:
Graduate from a recognized and accredited medical school
Complete at least three years of training in general surgery through an accredited residency program
Complete a minimum of two years of training in plastic surgery through an accredited residency program
Hold a medical license
Pass comprehensive written and oral exams
Complete a six month probationary period in which all operative reports and pre and postoperative photographs are reviewed and accepted by a panel of board-certified plastic surgeons
Houston plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Eisemann has received board-certification in three different specialties from the ABPS and is also board-certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
