Plastic and aesthetic surgery are associated with highly invasive procedures such as breast augmentation, liposuction, or body lift procedures, but sometimes what the patient is most concerned about is something small, such as a scar. Most of us have scars from childhood adventures or perhaps accidents that occurred during the adult years. Most of the time, scars are not that bothersome, heal on their own, or are not very visible under clothing. However, there are times when scars on the face or other visible areas cause concern for patients. Plastic surgeons are also highly skilled at what is called “scar revision.” This means that in some instances plastic surgeons can mitigate the scar’s appearance or even eliminate it. The results of scar revision vary greatly from patient-to-patient, and the skill of the surgeon is also critical.
