Liposuction is one of the most popular body contouring procedures among our Houston area patients and across the country because it is an effective way to remove stubborn fat deposits that refuse to respond to diet and exercise alone.
If you live in or around Houston and are considering liposuction, please contact the Eisemann Plastic Surgery Center online or call (713) 790-1771 to schedule a consultation with our board-certified plastic surgeon today.

Liposuction Treatment Areas
At Eisemann Plastic Surgery Center, triple board-certified Houston plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Eisemann can use liposuction to remove stubborn deposits of fat from nearly any area of your body, including:
- Ankles and calves
- Inner knee
- Hips and buttocks
- Abdomen and waist
- Upper arms
- Chest area
- Cheeks, chin and neck
Liposuction can help you achieve great results, but it is often combined with other surgical procedures for a more dramatic enhancement. During your consultation with Dr. Eisemann, you can discuss your cosmetic goals and determine whether additional procedures, such as tummy tuck, buttock augmentation, and mommy makeover, may be right to help you achieve your desired results.
Tumescent and Ultrasonic Liposuction
Dr. Eisemann uses both the tumescent and ultrasonic liposuction techniques. These advanced liposuction techniques have both shown to be incredibly effective, but neither one is ideal for every need. During your initial consultation, Dr. Eisemann will assess your areas of concern and recommend the right technique for your body.
Tumescent liposuction uses an injection of localized anesthetic and surgical solution to help loosen up fat deposits and allow for more thorough removal. This technique may be used alone or in conjunction with ultrasonic liposuction depending on your specific needs.
Ultrasonic liposuction uses ultrasound waves to emulsify fat deposits prior to removal. This allows for the complete removal of unsightly fat and offers a number of advantages including:
- Less damage to surrounding tissue
- Less trauma, resulting in a shorter recovery period
- Fewer risks of excessive bleeding
- Lower surgical and postoperative risks
Dr. Eisemann is dedicated to providing the safest and most effective liposuction options to all of our patients. Considered one of Houston’s leading body contouring surgeons and with over three decades of practice, Dr. Eisemann has carefully selected the liposuction techniques he feels are most beneficial for the largest number of people.
During your body contouring consultation at our Houston, Texas office, Dr. Eisemann will be happy to discuss your options, assess your particular needs, and help you determine which liposuction technique is best suited to help you reach your goals.
The Liposuction Procedure
To perform liposuction, a small incision will need to be made in the treatment area. Thanks to the advanced forms of liposuction utilized by our Houston plastic surgeon, this incision will be incredibly small and, if proper care is taken during recovery, become all but unnoticeable within a few months of your procedure.
To remove unsightly fat, a small cannula will be inserted into the treatment area and used to gently break apart and suction out unwanted deposits. Once a safe amount of fat has been removed, Dr. Eisemann will close the incision and your recovery process will begin. It is important that you follow all of Dr. Eisemann’s pre and postoperative instructions to guard against both physical and aesthetic complications.
Dr. Eisemann performs all liposuction procedures in our private and accredited surgical suite. Maintaining accreditation requires meeting strict health standards and providing the highest quality patient care. We will give you additional information about our facility during your initial liposuction consultation.
Recovery from liposuction is relatively fast. Most patients are able to resume working within two days and to begin nonstrenuous activities within the first week. More demanding activities may need to be avoided for two to four weeks, and advanced exercise techniques should not be incorporated into your routine before week six. Dr. Eismeann will review the recovery timeline with you to help ensure you do not engage in unnecessarily risky activities before your body is ready.
Swelling, bruising, and postoperative discomfort are common with liposuction. Discomfort can be dealt with through OTC medications or, when needed, medications prescribed by our Houston plastic surgeon.
Swelling can be reduced by:
- Using a compression garment
- Avoiding excessive activity
- Taking walks two to three times a day
Bruising may take a bit longer to subside, but should fade within a few weeks. The liposuction techniques offered by Dr. Eisemann are designed to reduce both bruising and swelling, and can help guard against discomfort, but it is important that you follow all recommendations to facilitate a swift and safe recovery.
Most people see final results within six to eight weeks of liposuction.
Maintaining Liposuction Results
The best way to maintain your liposuction results is through diet and exercise. Once removed through liposuction, fat cannot come back. New fat can, however, accumulate in the treatment area if proper care is not taken of the body. Fortunately, “proper care” does not demand anything extreme, just a dedication to healthy living.
To help ensure your liposuction results are permanent, it is best to:
- Focus on fresh fruits and vegetables
- Eat lean proteins
- Avoid simple carbohydrates and sugar
- Avoid highly processed foods
- Get at least three hours of moderate exercise weekly
For optimal results, staying active is key. Brisk walks, swimming, or other low-impact exercise should be done daily to help prevent unwanted weight gain. More advanced forms of exercise can be taken up as well if you would like to enhance your results. We recommend working with a professional trainer if sculpting your frame is something you desire.
During your initial consultation at our Houston plastic surgery office, Dr. Eisemann will discuss maintaining results and provide you with information on what you can realistically expect from your liposuction procedure.
To be a good candidate for liposuction, you will need to be:
- A nonsmoker
- In generally good physical health
- Close your ideal weight
- Prepared for a surgical procedure
- Able to take time to rest
- Willing to follow pre and postoperative instructions
- Committed to maintaining results
It is important to remember that liposuction is a body contouring procedure and not designed for weight loss. If you are not close to your goal weight, you may need to take preliminary steps before becoming a good liposuction candidate.
We believe your comfort and safety play a large role in your ultimate satisfaction and weigh these things as heavily as producing ideal aesthetic results.
