Breast implants, particularly modern options like the gummy bear implant, can last for a number of years. It is unlikely however that they will last forever. When the time comes, board-certified Houston breast surgeon, Dr. Michael Eisemann, would be happy to discuss the replacement of your implants through breast implant revision surgery. Revision of your initial procedure is an option if you desire a change in the appearance of your breasts, or in the rare case, of medical necessity. If you’re interested in a breast implant revision in Houston, call today to schedule a consultation.
- You may wish to consider breast implant revision in cases such as:
- Breast implant deflation
- Double bubble, sagging, or other aesthetic imperfections
- Capsular contracture Loss of symmetry
- A desire to change the size, shape, or location of breast implants
- A desire to change the type of breast implants you currently have
- A desire to remove implants entirely
You can discuss these changes in detail during your initial breast augmentation consultation with Dr. Eisemann. During your consultation, he will work with you to design a breast implant revision procedure that meets your specific needs and goals to ensure you are confident in the appearance of your breasts.
When patients must have their implants replaced, many consider switching implant types or sizes during the procedure. During your consultation, Dr. Eisemann will discuss which implant options are best for you to achieve your desired look. He will help you personalize your implant type and size to create your ideal breasts. At Eisemann Plastic Surgery Center, we have three implant options available.
- Saline Implants - Great for fullness and projection
- Silicone Implants - Provide a natural look and feel
- Anatomic Implants (Gummy Bear) - Great long-term performance and shape
Dr. Eisemann may also suggest adding a breast lift to your procedure to achieve the level of perkiness that you desire.
Depending on your reason for undergoing a breast implant revision, the surgical techniques are usually similar to those used in your initial breast augmentation procedure. In most cases, Dr. Eisemann can use the same incision location to eliminate the risk of additional scarring, and will take great care to minimize trauma to surrounding tissue – helping to guard against additional complications as well. Based on your revision needs, your breast surgeon will remove the original implants, adjust the breast implant pocket, and remove scar tissue. Then he will insert the new implants and close the incision.
Recovery from a breast implant revision is similar to the initial breast augmentation procedure. Immediately after the procedure, patients may experience some swelling, bruising and pain. You can manage these side effects with over the counter pain medications and ice packs. Many patients are able to return to work after five to seven days, and resume most normal activities after three weeks. You can expect full healing within six weeks. It may take a couple of months for your implants to settle and for the long term results to be visible.
