A few implant options for a breast augmentation procedure include silicone, saline, and gummy bear implants.
Implant revision surgery can replace aging implants or fix imperfections from a previous augmentation procedure.
One of the most common procedures performed at Eisemann Plastic Surgery Center is a breast augmentation - also known as augmentation mammoplasty, or breast enlargement with implants. Some women feel that their breasts are too small for their bodies. Others want to restore breast volume that has been lost due to aging, weight loss or pregnancy. Breast augmentation may also be used to correct breast asymmetry, improve breast sagging or reconstruct a breast following surgery for breast cancer. Dr. Eisemann may also recommend a breast lift (mastopexy) at the same time as the breast augmentation surgery if your breasts have lost perkiness along with volume. This recommendation will be based on your specific goals and anatomical features. If you desire breast augmentation in Houston, schedule a consultation with Dr. Eisemann to find out if you’re a candidate for the procedure.
Breast Augmentation Consultation
To determine if breast augmentation can help you reach your goals, schedule a one-on-one consultation with triple board-certified Houston plastic surgeon, Dr. Michael Eisemann. During this consultation, Dr. Eisemann will first listen to your concerns and assess your expectations. With over three decades of experience, Dr. Eisemann will tell you if your particular needs can be met with this procedure.
Dr. Eisemann will examine your medical history to ensure you are physically prepared for a surgical procedure. To be a good candidate for this procedure, some patients may need to discontinue use of some medications and supplements. If you are a smoker, you will need to quit at least six weeks in advance of your procedure, and commit to not smoking throughout your entire recovery process.
Breast augmentation candidates need to understand the limitations of the recovery period for this procedure. You should be prepared to take time off work and avoid certain physical activities while you’re recovering.
Lastly, breast augmentation is a surgical procedure and, as such, comes with potential risks and complications. To undergo a breast augmentation procedure, you need to understand that complications are possible. It’s important to closely follow Dr. Eisemann’s pre and post surgical advice to minimize your risks.
Customizing Your Breast Augmentation Procedure
How do you envision your ideal breasts? How would you prefer they feel? How much cleavage would you like to have? Do you favor a natural look or something more enhanced? Questions like these are a necessary part of your breast augmentation planning phase.
Dr. Eisemann strongly believes that our patients deserve to feel confident in their decision to have breast surgery. He can customize your Houston breast augmentation procedure to produce the results you find most desirable.
To further discuss your breast augmentation, Dr. Eisemann will discuss options with you such as:
Your implant size will be based on the dimensions of your chest, how much natural breast tissue is present, and your breast size in relation to your other features. It is important to remember that the size of your implants can impact other procedural options such as type of implant and implant placement.
For ideal results, you should be open and honest with Dr. Eisemann about your desires during the planning phase of your breast surgery. This allows him to make procedural modifications to meet your specific needs.
Your Breast Implant Options
There are a number of breast implant options that will impact the final aesthetics of your Houston breast augmentation procedure. Triple board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Eisemann is pleased to offer our patients a wide range of options, allowing him
to completely customize your breast augmentation, and help you achieve the look of your dreams.
Your Houston breast implant options will include:
- Saline Implants
- Silicone Implants
- Anatomic Implants (Gummy Bear Implants)
Additionally, the shape and texture requirements vary depending on the implant you and Dr. Eisemann select. Breast implants can be either round or teardrop shaped. Some implants require texturing to ensure they remain in place after they’re inserted.
Breast Augmentation Procedure
The breast augmentation procedure is outpatient and performed with general anesthesia. Depending on the type of implants you select during your consultation with Dr. Eisemann, the surgical procedure will vary.
Common incision placements include: under the breasts, around the areola, in the armpit, or through the belly button. The implants are placed either above or below the muscles in your chest.
Oftentimes, many patients choose to combine the breast augmentation with a breast lift to achieve their desired look. These procedures can be performed in conjunction to increase both the volume and perkiness of your breasts.
Breast Augmentation Recovery Process
Recovery from breast augmentation is a personal issue. How your body responds to surgery, your natural healing abilities, and other factors unique to your procedure will make your recovery different from anyone else’s. It is reassuring to know that Houston breast surgeon, Dr. Michael Eisemann, and his helpful staff are committed to supporting you through the entirety of your recovery and will remain available to you should any concerns arise.
Although your recovery from breast augmentation will be unique, most women need to rest for one to two days following surgery. During this period, swelling and mild discomfort are common. Dr. Eisemann may prescribe pain medications for postoperative discomfort. Swelling can be reduced by resting, applying ice packs, and wearing the compression garment supplied by our office.
Swelling and bruising may continue for several weeks, but most women are able to resume work and some normal activities within five to seven days. During your initial consultation, we will discuss with you how long you should take off of work based on the physical demands of your job.
Mild exercise such as walking should be resumed within 48 hours. Frequent walks can help reduce swelling and speed recovery. You should avoid more strenuous activities that can impact your incisions until Dr. Eisemann advises otherwise. Generally this is within four to six weeks.
Dr. Eisemann will provide you with information on how to take care of your incisions and reduce postoperative complications. It is important that you follow Dr. Eisemann’s advice to minimize your risk of issues such as infection and more severe pain.
Full recovery from breast augmentation typically takes six to eight weeks. Your final results will not be apparent until you have completely recovered. If you have concerns or questions during this time, Dr. Eisemann would be happy to talk over the phone or meet with you in person to help ensure your absolute comfort.
