Common Liposuction Myths

Common Liposuction MythsLiposuction is one of the most misunderstood body contouring procedures. Many people confuse liposuction for another procedure, while others may have unrealistic expectations of what it can accomplish. Here we will dispel several liposuction myths:

  1. Liposuction is a great way to lose weight: Not only is liposuction not meant to lose weight, but if you are having trouble keeping weight off then liposuction may be unhealthy for you. If your weight yo-yo’s after liposuction it can cause complications.
  2. Liposuction and tummy tuck are the same thing: this is not true. Liposuction removes fatty deposits in troubled areas. A tummy tuck removes excess skin and tissue in the abdominal region.
  3. Liposuction gets rid of cellulite: it is not used to treat cellulite.
  4. Fat will come back elsewhere in the body: liposuction removes fat from a portion of the body. If you maintain a healthy diet and exercise regimen then your body should not have excess calories to store as fat.
  5. An obese patient is ideal: this cannot be farther from the truth. An ideal liposuction candidate is a little overweight and has trouble areas that haven’t responded to diet and exercise. It’s these fatty deposits that liposuction targets.
  6. The more fat removed the better: the more fat that is removed the higher the risk factors. Only a healthy amount of fat determined by your surgeon will be removed.
  7. Liposuction is only for women: actually men have liposuction about as often as women. Men tend to have different troubled areas than women. One of the most common areas for liposuction in women is the arms and in men it is the love handles.

Practice Policy Update Regarding COVID-19

Dr. Michael Eisemann, Dr. Bradley Eisemann, and the entire staff at Eisemann Plastic Surgery are committed to the health and safety of all of our patients and ourselves.

We are thankful to be connected to Houston Methodist Hospital, one of the most respected hospitals in the country. Because of this, our screening policy is aided by the hospital's official policies and checkpoint screening measures completed prior to entering our building. These measures allow us to do everything we can, at this point in time, to minimize the chance that we expose ourselves or our patients to someone who has been sick or contagious with the virus.

We are set up to perform new consults and patient follow-ups via ZOOM video conferencing.

As of Monday, March 23rd, our office is open. We are open and seeing select patients. If you are currently on the schedule, please call our office if you have any concerns about your own health.

While all major hospitals have stopped elective surgery at this time, we are very selectively performing indicated operative procedures in our procedure room and in our AAAASF certified operating room under local and IV sedation.

As always, both Dr. Michael Eisemann and Dr. Bradley Eisemann are available by phone and email to answer any questions you may have.
