Mastectomy and lumpectomy can have a significant impact on the appearance of your body. These necessary procedures deserve to be applauded for the women whose lives they have saved, but shouldn’t the changes they make to your appearance be considered as well?

Triple board-certified Houston plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Eisemann thinks so. So does the United States Congress who, through legislation, has required all insurance companies to cover the cost of most breast reconstruction procedures.

Breast Reconstruction Options

Houston plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Eisemann offers both the flap and breast implant methods of breast reconstruction. With the flap method, Dr. Michael Eisemann and Dr. Bradley Eisemann will use fat, skin, muscle, or other tissue harvested from your body to create a new breast mound. The most popular method, the TRAM flap, uses muscle and tissue from the abdominal area, but other flap techniques may use tissue from the back, buttocks, or chest as well.

The flap method can produce ideal contours, but may need to be performed after you have completed Radiotherapy treatments.

Breast reconstruction with breast implants can often be done at the same time as your cancer removal. With this option, Dr. Michael Eisemann and Dr. Bradley Eisemann will use a tissue expander to make room for an implant. After room has been made, which can take a few months, an implant can be placed in the space made by the tissue expander.

DDr. Michael Eisemann and Dr. Bradley Eisemann have found that cohesive-gel silicone implants, also known as “gummy bear” implants, are ideal for this procedure as they tend to look and feel like natural breast tissue. Gummy bear implants may also last significantly longer than earlier generation silicone implants.

The final part of your breast reconstruction will include nipple and areola restoration. However, even though Dr. Michael Eisemann and Dr. Bradley Eisemann are experienced breast surgeons, it is important to remember that your reconstructed breast will not look the same as your natural breast. The goal with this procedure is to restore symmetry and balance – a goal that Dr. Michael Eisemann and Dr. Bradley Eisemann can discuss in greater detail during your Houston breast reconstruction consultation.

To schedule a breast reconstruction consultation with our board-certified Houston plastic surgeons, please contact us today. Based in Houston, Texas, Dr. Michael Eisemann and Dr. Bradley Eisemann are honored to provide this important procedure to women in Texas, throughout the United States, and across the globe.

Practice Policy Update Regarding COVID-19

Dr. Michael Eisemann, Dr. Bradley Eisemann, and the entire staff at Eisemann Plastic Surgery are committed to the health and safety of all of our patients and ourselves.

We are thankful to be connected to Houston Methodist Hospital, one of the most respected hospitals in the country. Because of this, our screening policy is aided by the hospital's official policies and checkpoint screening measures completed prior to entering our building. These measures allow us to do everything we can, at this point in time, to minimize the chance that we expose ourselves or our patients to someone who has been sick or contagious with the virus.

We are set up to perform new consults and patient follow-ups via ZOOM video conferencing.

As of Monday, March 23rd, our office is open. We are open and seeing select patients. If you are currently on the schedule, please call our office if you have any concerns about your own health.

While all major hospitals have stopped elective surgery at this time, we are very selectively performing indicated operative procedures in our procedure room and in our AAAASF certified operating room under local and IV sedation.

As always, both Dr. Michael Eisemann and Dr. Bradley Eisemann are available by phone and email to answer any questions you may have.
