Many children are born with skin lesions on their body. The lesions vary widely in terms of appearance, size, location, and etiology.

It is most important to have a trained physician evaluate the lesion to obtain a diagnosis. In children, this is often done by simply evaluating the patient and looking at the lesion. Rarely is a biopsy needed.

Schedule your initial consultation to see how our experienced team, Dr. Michael Eisemann and Dr. Bradley Eisemann, can help you. The Eisemann Plastic Surgery Center serves Houston, Clear Lake, and surrounding communities in Texas. Please contact us below or call (713) 790-1771 today.

The location, size, and diagnosis are important in making informed decisions about what to do for these lesions. Many lesions are benign. Some lesions are pre-cancerous and have a risk of becoming cancerous as children grow. Some lesions are worrisome and should be addressed quickly.

Other lesions have characteristic patterns of growth and shrinking as children grow.

It is important to have an understanding about the natural history of all of these lesions and masses. What will happen if nothing is done? What are the options to remove them early? Much of the decision process depends on the expected diagnosis, size, and location of the lesion.

Treatment is sometimes indicated in the first few months of life.

Sometimes treatment is best around 6-12 months of age. Sometimes treatment should be delayed until children are preparing to enter school for the first time.

Some treatment should be delayed until patients can have a role in the decision making process themselves.

Please call us to have an evaluation and discuss all of the available options so that we can make a plan to best address each individual patient.

Practice Policy Update Regarding COVID-19

Dr. Michael Eisemann, Dr. Bradley Eisemann, and the entire staff at Eisemann Plastic Surgery are committed to the health and safety of all of our patients and ourselves.

We are thankful to be connected to Houston Methodist Hospital, one of the most respected hospitals in the country. Because of this, our screening policy is aided by the hospital's official policies and checkpoint screening measures completed prior to entering our building. These measures allow us to do everything we can, at this point in time, to minimize the chance that we expose ourselves or our patients to someone who has been sick or contagious with the virus.

We are fully open seeing new and existing patients, and we continue to offer consults and patient follow-ups utilizing ZOOM video conferencing.

All major hospitals in the Houston area allowing scheduling of elective surgeries and we are performing operative procedures in our procedure room and in our AAAASF certified operating room under local and IV sedation.

We have added new policies regarding the number of patients in the office, and all staff and patients must wear facemasks. We continue to maintain vigilance for hygiene and plan to maintain these policies for some time.

As always, both Dr. Michael Eisemann and Dr. Bradley Eisemann are available by phone and email to answer any questions you may have.
