Recovering From Abdominoplasty (tummy Tuck)

Abdominoplasty is a body contouring surgery that can help reduce excess skin and fat around the abdominal area. Also called a tummy tuck, the procedure can also help tighten the abdominal muscles, improving core strength and giving better tone to the abdomen.

The Recovery Process

The recovery from abdominoplasty depends on how you prepare for the surgery, your particular health, and your post-surgical care. Of course, the most important thing you can do to have a speedy and full recovery from your abdominoplasty is to follow all of your doctor’s orders for post surgical care of your incision and drainage tubes. You will need to reduce your activity level for up to four weeks while your muscles heal, and may not be able to work during that time. Once you are through the initial phase of recovery, you can improve your outcome by:

  • Not smoking—you must quit smoking for several weeks before the surgery to reduce the risks of stroke or blood clots. It is highly recommended that you do not begin again once your surgery is over.
  • Eating a balanced nutritious diet—as your body heals, it is important to get all of the nutrients you need to rebuild tissues and heal.
  • Drinking plenty of water—staying hydrated will greatly improve the healing process.
  • Regaining activity—once you are cleared from bed rest, it is essential that you begin to regain an active lifestyle. While you should wait several months to return to a rigorous gym routine, be sure to start walking and getting up as soon as you can.

Practice Policy Update Regarding COVID-19

Dr. Michael Eisemann, Dr. Bradley Eisemann, and the entire staff at Eisemann Plastic Surgery are committed to the health and safety of all of our patients and ourselves.

We are thankful to be connected to Houston Methodist Hospital, one of the most respected hospitals in the country. Because of this, our screening policy is aided by the hospital's official policies and checkpoint screening measures completed prior to entering our building. These measures allow us to do everything we can, at this point in time, to minimize the chance that we expose ourselves or our patients to someone who has been sick or contagious with the virus.

We are set up to perform new consults and patient follow-ups via ZOOM video conferencing.

As of Monday, March 23rd, our office is open. We are open and seeing select patients. If you are currently on the schedule, please call our office if you have any concerns about your own health.

While all major hospitals have stopped elective surgery at this time, we are very selectively performing indicated operative procedures in our procedure room and in our AAAASF certified operating room under local and IV sedation.

As always, both Dr. Michael Eisemann and Dr. Bradley Eisemann are available by phone and email to answer any questions you may have.
