Video Conferencing & Aesthetics: The Future is Now

For many professionals, Skype, FaceTime and other video conferencing software is their worst nightmare come true. Many of us remember the futuristic video telephone from The Jetsons, and thought “Eeek! Someone could see me without my makeup and hair done.” For all of us, the future is now; merely worrying about makeup and hair is the least of worries for some who enjoy the benefits and convenience of video conferencing. During the 2nd quarter of 2012, some professionals in the field of plastic surgery coined the phrase “FaceTime Facelift” because of the influx of consults received where the catalyst was their appearance on a webcam. Unless you’re a Hollywood star or supermodel, no one really likes the way they appear on film, and most certainly video. For some watching themselves on video can be a painful experience as they see themselves turn into some iteration of Rain Man. However, according to The Eisemann Plastic Surgery Center in Houston, Texas, electing to have a facelift, neck lift or other procedure based on FaceTime or Skype video alone might be an overreaction. First of all, the angle by which the webcam catches the person’s appearance is probably the least flattering angle for the human face, and the camera hones in on the neck. While the camera doesn’t lie, it also doesn’t do us any favors. If you are one of the thousands who have been blindsided by your appearance on webcams, and feel you need to do something, by all means contact a board certified plastic surgeon who is a member of the ASPS, such as Dr. Michael Eisemann. Dr. Eisemann is known for his thorough evaluations and candid opinions. For example, the patient may not need a facelift, but perhaps a slight amount of liposuction under the chin or dermal fillers.

Practice Policy Update Regarding COVID-19

Dr. Michael Eisemann, Dr. Bradley Eisemann, and the entire staff at Eisemann Plastic Surgery are committed to the health and safety of all of our patients and ourselves.

We are thankful to be connected to Houston Methodist Hospital, one of the most respected hospitals in the country. Because of this, our screening policy is aided by the hospital's official policies and checkpoint screening measures completed prior to entering our building. These measures allow us to do everything we can, at this point in time, to minimize the chance that we expose ourselves or our patients to someone who has been sick or contagious with the virus.

We are fully open seeing new and existing patients, and we continue to offer consults and patient follow-ups utilizing ZOOM video conferencing.

All major hospitals in the Houston area allowing scheduling of elective surgeries and we are performing operative procedures in our procedure room and in our AAAASF certified operating room under local and IV sedation.

We have added new policies regarding the number of patients in the office, and all staff and patients must wear facemasks. We continue to maintain vigilance for hygiene and plan to maintain these policies for some time.

As always, both Dr. Michael Eisemann and Dr. Bradley Eisemann are available by phone and email to answer any questions you may have.
