What Are Wpath Standards of Care?

At The Eisemann Plastic Surgery Center, we not only offer transgender plastic surgery for transitioning individuals, we also work hard to make our facility a safe space. Plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Eisemann and his staff are known throughout Houston as compassionate and understanding.

As part of that commitment, Dr. Eisemann adheres to the standards of care promulgated by World Professional Association for Transgender Health. These standards are designed to protect the physical and emotional health of transgender individuals as they explore their medical options.

The standards are extensive, and contain a number of provisions. You can read the entire PDF document at the WPATH website here. What you should be aware of, however, is that the standards require a medical professional you frequently interact with (such as a physician or psychologist) to provide Dr. Eisemann with a letter of referral before you undergo any surgical procedure.

This letter should contain:

  • The results of a psychosocial assessment
  • The reasoning behind the professional’s decision to recommend a surgical procedure
  • Your general identifying characteristics

If you have any questions, you should feel free to ask Dr. Eisemann what specific information he needs in the letter or talk to the medical professional you are currently seeing.

If you’re a transgender, transsexual or gender non-conforming patient in Houston, Texas or if you live anywhere else in the country and you’re looking for a plastic surgeon you know you can trust, please contact The Eisemann Plastic Surgery Center today for a consultation.

Practice Policy Update Regarding COVID-19

Dr. Michael Eisemann, Dr. Bradley Eisemann, and the entire staff at Eisemann Plastic Surgery are committed to the health and safety of all of our patients and ourselves.

We are thankful to be connected to Houston Methodist Hospital, one of the most respected hospitals in the country. Because of this, our screening policy is aided by the hospital's official policies and checkpoint screening measures completed prior to entering our building. These measures allow us to do everything we can, at this point in time, to minimize the chance that we expose ourselves or our patients to someone who has been sick or contagious with the virus.

We are set up to perform new consults and patient follow-ups via ZOOM video conferencing.

As of Monday, March 23rd, our office is open. We are open and seeing select patients. If you are currently on the schedule, please call our office if you have any concerns about your own health.

While all major hospitals have stopped elective surgery at this time, we are very selectively performing indicated operative procedures in our procedure room and in our AAAASF certified operating room under local and IV sedation.

As always, both Dr. Michael Eisemann and Dr. Bradley Eisemann are available by phone and email to answer any questions you may have.
