What Exactly is Laser Skin Resurfacing?

It’s important to know what Laser Skin Resurfacing is… At The Eisemann Plastic Surgery Center we would like to take a few minutes and go over some of the different laser treatments that are on the market today. Lasers work by focusing energy on a certain color of the spectrum.  These colors vary from the color of water (CO2 lasers) to brown (Nd-YAG) to red (Pulse Dye) and others.  IPL- is another laser therapy known as Intense Pulse Light, when the high intensity light energy of a laser encounters the color it focuses on, heat is created.   This heat can be utilized to cut the skin, burn the upper layers of skin off, heat the deeper layers of the skin, destroy blemishes and some cases remove scaring.

When lasering the upper layers of the skin it can create a powerful exfoliation, essentially removing these upper layers and their associated blemishes and the fine lines and wrinkles.  Eventually the upper layers of the skin grow back within a week or two, smoother and clearer than before giving you a smoother, tighter and more youthful appearance.  Other more intense lasers can reach the deeper dermas of the skin, it denatures, or breaks down collagen which are the building blocks of skin.  This way when the collagen reforms it becomes tighter and more packed.  This results in tighter skin with less loose or age revealing skin.  This Laser Skin Tightening procedure can be used to tighten aging skin and reduces the effects of beginning sagging skin around the under eyes, jowls and neck.

Two of the reasons Dr. Michael Eisemann likes to use these lasers are *1- burn off the upper layers of skin with their associated blemishes and fine lines and wrinkles and/or *2- heat the deeper layers of skin to tighten and aid in the production of the collagen.  Coming soon I will post the different types of lasers found in many doctor and medical offices in Houston. It is important to know what you can expect from them.

Practice Policy Update Regarding COVID-19

Dr. Michael Eisemann, Dr. Bradley Eisemann, and the entire staff at Eisemann Plastic Surgery are committed to the health and safety of all of our patients and ourselves.

We are thankful to be connected to Houston Methodist Hospital, one of the most respected hospitals in the country. Because of this, our screening policy is aided by the hospital's official policies and checkpoint screening measures completed prior to entering our building. These measures allow us to do everything we can, at this point in time, to minimize the chance that we expose ourselves or our patients to someone who has been sick or contagious with the virus.

We are set up to perform new consults and patient follow-ups via ZOOM video conferencing.

As of Monday, March 23rd, our office is open. We are open and seeing select patients. If you are currently on the schedule, please call our office if you have any concerns about your own health.

While all major hospitals have stopped elective surgery at this time, we are very selectively performing indicated operative procedures in our procedure room and in our AAAASF certified operating room under local and IV sedation.

As always, both Dr. Michael Eisemann and Dr. Bradley Eisemann are available by phone and email to answer any questions you may have.
